The first evidence of a settlement in Nonantola's territory date back to the Bronze Age( Sec. XVI-XIII B.C). The important Abbey was consecrated in 752. As evidence of the historical dispute regarding the territory between Modena and Bologna can be observed the Modena's Tower (1261) and the Bologna's Tower (1306-1325). Towards the end of World War II, Nonantola gave relief to about 100 Jews helping them to escape concentration camps, were mainly women and children who were first housed at Villa Emma ( 300 mt ) and then were helped to escape to Switzerland.
